Honda Vezel DCT Gearbox: The "Recall" Check You Must Do

Honda Vezel (RU) Kenya Review: The DCT Gearbox & Hybrid Truth

The City King. The Honda Vezel is the most practical compact SUV you can buy. It combines the space of a station wagon with the height of a crossover. But the "Dual Clutch" gearbox scares many buyers. We explain how to maintain it correctly to avoid the dreaded "Check System" light.

⚠️ The DCT "Death Fluid" Warning

The #1 killer of Vezel gearboxes is mechanics adding CVT Fluid. The Vezel Hybrid DOES NOT use a CVT.

  • The System: It is a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission (i-DCD).
  • The Mistake: Pouring "Honda HCF-2" (CVT fluid) into this gearbox will destroy the clutch friction material.
  • The Fix: Use Honda ATF DW-1 for the clutch actuator and Honda DW-1 Ultra for the gear set.
  • Interval: Change every 30,000km to keep shifts smooth.
MECHANIC'S TIP: If the car jerks when taking off, do a "Clutch Calibration" via OBD scanner.

Hybrid Battery: Lithium vs. Nickel

The Vezel uses advanced Lithium-Ion tech.

Feature Vezel Hybrid (Lithium) Toyota Fielder (NiMH)
Performance High (Instant Torque) Moderate
Replacement Cost ~Ksh 110,000 ~Ksh 85,000
Lifespan 8-10 Years 10+ Years

Suspension: RS vs. Standard

Be careful when choosing the "RS" trim.

  • Standard (X/Z): Tuned for comfort. 16/17-inch wheels absorb bumps well.
  • RS (Sport): Tuned for handling. It has stiffer dampers and 18-inch wheels. It looks better but is uncomfortable on rocky roads. Only buy RS if you drive mostly on tarmac.

Space: The "Magic Seat" Advantage

This is why the Vezel beats the C-HR.

  • Tall Mode: Flip the rear seat bottoms up to carry tall items (plants, paintings).
  • Long Mode: Fold the passenger seat flat to carry items up to 2.5 meters long (pipes, curtain rods).
